I sent that posting to the list in case anyone was interested in buying it for themselves. I already have a CNC machine and I do not need more. The price seemed like a good deal. I have had no contact with the seller. He was selling two CNC machines and tooling, late 80s early 90's vintage.

We have a member who took up using the X-carve, and has identified a number of areas of improvement. That project is proceeding. For the 3D scanner you would need to ask our president. As far as the CNC metal machine goes, you are correct. You have to know machining practices, and CNC practices before you can use it. It is not a machine you can afford to make mistakes on. That's what the manual machines, and X-Carve are for. It's something we will work out with another member who has CNC experience. I expect it will take a year, after bringing it online, before it can be offered to members as part of a training plan. A training plan that would include steep requirements.

Maybe you already did the deal, Denis?

Beside that, I’m personally a bit ambivalent about CNC capability at Quelab?

The added complexity, in my view, requires an increased level of machining knowledge. Have not identified the passionate person yet who needs to “own” a CNC machine to get the full value of 3D capability?

For my interest in 3D machining to replicate antique radio escutcheons an so on I also need a 3D scanner with something close to 1-2 mil resolution? This capability also needs a passionate person to “own” the scanner. (I do have a local friend who I can ask to help me...for a fee)

Am I off base on this thinking?

Best regards,

John
