[Spacecadets] Spacecadets "mission"

I really don't have a problem with Alice subleasing a space.  All I was pointing out is that since anyone can join Quelab and may have desires to rent a space for as yet unknown purposes, I think that needs to be considered.

Hi John,
to clear up one point - subletting isn't what it sounds like - We have members who have been requesting a workspace for a place large enough for a work bench and some storage. These are maybe 6' by 8' or maybe less and only for members. We are not currently looking to sublet to some group to take up a section of the space for what they are working on.
Not to say that might not be considered in the future but for now it is focused toward responding to member's requests.

At the time of the original meeting of space cadets and viewing the annex with the real estate agent, Shelly Branscom, we were under the impression that the cost of the annex would be an additional expense to Quelab.  Subsequently we have heard from the lease negotiators that this may not be the case when the lease is renegotiated.  I think it would be helpful for developing suggestions about the space if there could be some clarifications on the probable cost and affordability of having the annex for use by all the members of the quelab.
My personal belief is that subletting space may lead to all kinds of problems.  There would probably need to be a rental agent deciding who could rent spaces, and how much to charge.  Liability for subleased spaces needs to be considered.  What activities are allowed in the leased space needs to be approved (e.g. fiberglass fabrication, chemistry of fluorine reactions, genetic engineering).
Great progress has been made over the last couple of months in cleaning up the area and converting the space to areas that can be used.  I don't know everyone that has been involved so I won't try and name them all.  I think if we could get the donations junkyard under control we would have a facility that all members could make use of and be proud of and that would not scare off potential new members who don't want to work in a junk yard.  I believe the potential increase in new users would more than pay for any additional cost of the annex.

That was how the evolution of the spacecadet 1.0, went,  when we were first looking to move from 2nd street,
step1 find optionsstep2 determine quelab's needsstep3 find something that fit most of the needs in the price range we had available, step4 turn that over to the board, wait for a miracle that allows us to afford it. step5 plan the layout, and report back to membership for feedbackstep6 watch and cry as the battle plan unfolds and you cant see the end in sight.step7 Quelab2.0
Space cadets 2.0 step1 Determine expansion options,step2 compare and contrast moving vs annexing step3 report back, step4 help plan the move / annexing, subletting,  report to members/boardstep5 watch and cry as the battleplan unfolds. step6.... party?

As far as my memory recalls the board convened the space cadets to look at space options to include but not limited to moving to other sites. Since then it has also evolved into the committee where all space related questions are directed. The committee does not have a directive from the board to design a plan for the new space... However it makes sense that this committee do that sort of thing. If a directive is needed, that item would need to be placed on a board agenda and consensed on by the board members. My guess is the committee will get to it anyway without a directive being needed.
