Someone suggested having benches on casters which could be stored against walls and rolled to open areas when in use.

Wouldn't it make sense to add some amount of "floor space" to the rental to account for that? If the rented "floor space" was in fact 4x5 (imagining the 4 ft dimension as being "along the wall," and projecting out 5 ft), with a 3x4 bench in it, then the additional 2x4 would in some way provide for a place for me to work at the bench. That would raise the price/month to $40 (still reasonable to me), and would allow us to plan the space such that we all have room to maneuver while working. To be clear, I am only seeing the "non-bench" space as being tape marks on a floor, so when someone isn't working at their bench it will not impede other Members who may be carrying/rolling things around the space. Similarly, if I lean back and stretch (or whatever), I (or others) do not bump into any physical barrier at the limit of this space. It physically looks the same as if we were only renting the bench space, just perhaps a bit more space between multiple rows of benches, if we ever got to that.

I'd like to distill what we think is good and what we think is bad from these, and come up with usage policies that will help us afford the new space we're hoping to rent out.

More was never determined, but was assumed to be a dollar or so more per square-foot. Additionally, Rooms 1 and 7 were optioned for member rental as they had the best opportunities for security (only one or two doors to be locked... and #1 has the external door for... purposes).

Right now, I'm leaning towards keeping the $2/sqft number in the new storage area (so renting a 3x4 bench would cost $24/mo, and renting a 2x4 spot to store your plywood would cost $16/mo). I haven't measured all the rooms that people are interested in renting in either of the areas, so I don't know if $2/sqft is a reasonable price. We've made it such that you can't rent the Core for more than a day or two (event), so our concern about people taking up all the floor space for a month in the largest room in the space is no longer a concern.
